Veterans Club Leads Campus Sept 11 Observation

The Florissant Valley campus paused to honor and commemorate the events of September 11, 2001 when the United States was attacked by terrorists in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania.  This year marks the 13th Anniversary for the attacks. Members of local Veterans of Foreign Wars groups participated in the flag ceremony with assistance from the event organizers, the campus Veterans' Club.

The ceremony, led by Veterans' Club member John Clark, continued inside as attendees sought shelter from the rain and brisk air.

Retired Liberal Arts Dean Nancy Linzy served as the event keynote speaker. Linzy, also a retired Air Force Colonel, recognized the heroic efforts of the men and women on that infamous day and the resolve that the United States continues to show. Linzy also acknowledged how the Florissant Valley community continues to reflect that strength and commitment.

"We've shown that we can find our own Ground Zero," Linzy said. She referenced the numerous food and clothing drives carried out by FV students in efforts to help those in need in St. Louis and the support to residents of Joplin, Mo. after the deadly tornadoes a few years ago.  Christine Phelps, also a veteran, signed Linzy's address.

FV Club Expo 2014!

FORUM NEWSPAPER signs up new staff members on the Quad  at Club Expo

CAMPUS LIFE HOSTS CLUB EXPO
ENCOURAGING INVOLVEMENT

Excitement and music were in the air at Flo Valley this week with the Fall Club Expo sponsored by Campus Life.  The event is one of the first of the semester targeted to get students involved in campus based organizations.  With over 40 clubs and organizations on campus there is something for everyone. KCFV 89.5 The Wave provided entertainment with music and lots of energy.  With free food and drink, Flo Valley students enjoyed learning about the 23 clubs who participated in the event.

One of the big surprises of the day was when the campus top administrators took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Crowds gathered around in anticipation of President Ruby Curry, Vice President of Academic Affairs Carol Lupardus and Vice President of Student Services Joe Worth taking on the chill.

It's not too late to sign up for clubs. Simply stop by the Campus Life office to learn about how to get involved and sign up in the Student Center.
