The Green Fair began six years ago to commemorate Earth Day. Since then, the event has grown each year with more participants. The goal of the Green Fair is to make the community aware of the many “green” options avail-able including organic and community gardens, cleaning products, electric vehicles and more. Various companies and organizations in the St. Louis area will come together to conduct demonstrations and provide information about their services.
In Oct. 2008, Dr. Marcia Pfeiffer, president of STLCC-Florissant Valley, signed the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) President’s Climate Commitment. This commitment dictates that colleges and universities must exercise leadership in their communities and throughout society by modeling ways to eliminate global warming emissions, and by initiating the development of a comprehensive plan to achieve climate neutrality. The Green Fair is just one of several ways STLCC-Florissant Valley seeks to live up to that commitment.
