STLCC Board Appoints Jeff Pittman As Chancellor

The St. Louis Community College Board of Trustees today announced that Jeff Pittman, Ph.D., statewide vice president of corporate college services and online education at Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, has accepted the position of chancellor, effective July 1.
“The Chancellor Search Committee and the Board of Trustees were impressed with Dr. Pittman’s extensive background in community colleges, including previous service as a multi-campus chancellor in Indiana," said Craig Larson, STLCC board chair. "Because of his experience, Dr. Pittman understands the opportunities, as well as the complexities and challenges, facing community colleges and higher education today. In his current role, Dr. Pittman has helped the entire state of Indiana develop and implement effective online community college courses that have significantly increased student access to a college education. Throughout the interview process, Dr. Pittman made it clear that he understands the critical role St. Louis Community College plays both in preparing students for a lifetime of success and in ensuring the economic vitality of the region. We are excited to bring Dr. Pittman’s vision, creativity, and leadership to STLCC.”
Pittman has served as the statewide vice president of corporate college services and online education at Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana since January 2013, and has served in wide variety of academic leadership roles for the college for the past 27 years in four geographic regions and the system office. Ivy Tech is Indiana’s community college system, with 30 campuses in 14 regions. It is the state’s largest public postsecondary institution and the nation’s largest singly accredited statewide community college system, annually serving nearly 200,000 students.
“It is with a sense of great excitement and humility that I have been selected to serve in this role at St. Louis Community College,” Pittman said. “I am eager to begin work with the faculty, staff, students, and the trustees of this organization and the entire St. Louis community. Our mission is about providing students with the opportunity to prepare themselves with the education and skills needed for high wage jobs, for further education, and to provide employers with a highly educated and skilled workforce so desperately needed for the future. I wish to publicly thank the trustees for their confidence in me and look forward to working with them and the many constituents of the college in the years ahead.”
Most recently, Pittman was instrumental in the reorganization and development of a lean organization for the delivery of Corporate College customized workforce training and services to business, industry, and individuals throughout the state of Indiana. Pittman also served as chancellor of Ivy Tech’s Wabash Valley Region for 11 years, and simultaneously worked as the statewide vice provost of distance education for three of the years. Under Pittman’s leadership, the college’s enrollment in online education doubled from more than 32,000 students per year in 2008 to 69,000 students in 2010.
Pittman’s doctorate in educational leadership, administration, and foundations is from Indiana State University. His master’s degree in human resource development is from Indiana State University, and his bachelor’s degree in business is from Indiana University.
