FV Welcomes Archers Back To The Soccer Field

By Darian O'Marr Jones of The Forum

Men’s and women’s soccer teams are back to business in full force. Coached by Tim Mosby, the men’s soccer team boasts a 6-0 opening season record.  The women’s team, coached by Jason Howard, has fought through some close loses with a 0-3 record despite a strong defensive game.

On August 25, Florissant Valley hosted a women’s and men’s double header against Allen County Community College Red Devils. The Lady Archers played first with an intense match ending in a 2-1 overtime loss. Coach Howard plans to keep his team focused on reaching the regional tournament despite the rocky season start. He is confident the team’s depth will be a strong factor in improving their defensive play.
The men’s team was up next in a battle against the Red Devils.

Throughout the game defenders always seemed to be first to the ball, a good strategy in soccer when you want control of the game. All in all, the team played hard even toward the final whistle. In the end, the Archers’ racked up an impressive 4-0 win.

These were the first two soccer games back on Florissant Valley turf after last year’s move to Meramec due to poor field conditions on the FV field. Coming up the men are playing Cinnati State Technical & CC on September 22, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. and the Lady Archers are playing Illinois Valley at 2:00 p.m. For more information about STLCC soccer and other sports teams visit www.stlcc.edu/athletics.
