The Chess Festival took place on April 2 in the Student Center.  At the event people could play chess in various ways that was fun for all ages.  There was "Mega Chess," which is pictured to the right.  This was your typical game of chess, but on a much larger scale.  The pieces and the board were both enlarged.

Or people could play one-on-one on regular sized chess boards.
One of the main attractions of the festival was the Simultaneous Play against Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura, who is ranked number 1 in the United States.  During Simultaneous Play, Hikaru went around the table playing 20 competitors.  His movements around the room were fast and effective.  He had limited his competition to eight players in 40 minutes.

KCFV 89.5 The Wave, the radio station on Campus, came out for the event.  They provided music during the festival.  Pictured to the left is DJs "Mose" and "Big Mike".
KCFV also interviewed Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura.

The event was sponsored by the Student Government Association, the Chess Club, the Clubs of St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley and the Scholastic Center of St. Louis.
